How Rowan's mind works

I told Rowan we were having a party tonight — Rosh Hashanah dinner.

“Who’s coming to our house?” he asked. And then: “Will there be cake and ice cream?”

“Well,” I said, “there will be pie and ice cream.”

“And cake?”

“No, sweetheart, no cake. Just pie.”

“Just pie and ice cream.”

“That’s right.”

“Is the pie mixed in?”

“Mixed into the ice cream?”

“Sure, you can mix the pie into the ice cream.”
